Inserm 2025 Science and Society Award

By Jean-Sébastien Silvestre

Dr. Nabila Bouatia-Naji, Director of Research at Inserm and leader of the “Arterial Health and Diseases in Women” team at the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Inserm Science and Society Prize. This award recognizes her remarkable commitment to advancing cardiovascular research, especially as it pertains to women, and her efforts to raise public awareness about these critical health issues.

Advances in Women’s Cardiovascular Health

Dr. Bouatia-Naji’s team is at the forefront of studying cardiovascular diseases that primarily affect women, focusing on Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). Her groundbreaking genetic research has led to the identification of 16 genomic regions linked to a higher risk for SCAD. These discoveries are essential for improving both early diagnosis and effective treatment for women suffering from these under-recognized conditions.

Science and Society: A Strong Connection

Dr. Bouatia-Naji actively works to break the silence surrounding women’s cardiovascular health by promoting awareness campaigns and patient support. She was instrumental in supporting the development of patient organizations, such as SCADinfo, thereby ensuring that patients remain central to ongoing research efforts. Her dedication bridges the gap between research and the broader community, highlighting the societal impact of scientific discovery.

Congratulations to Dr. Bouatia-Naji and her team for this well-deserved recognition, which underscores the vital importance of women’s health research in cardiovascular medicine !
