Dr Empana is addressing the predictive value of novel biomarkers for CVD in large observational studies. Initially focused on peripheral blood biomarkers, current works have been expanded to vascular aging biomarkers as measured non-invasively by carotid echotracking. He’s currently conducting an ambitious project on the clinical relevance of radiomics markers as derived by carotid echotracking. Dr Empana is also coordinating international works addressing the clinical and public health relevance of primordial prevention, a novel preventative strategy ahead of primary prevention and aiming at preventing the onset of risk factors in the first place. With his team, he has in particular demonstrated that this approach could be useful to prevent not only CVD but also beyond, permitting to envisage of unified approach for preventing chronic diseases and multi morbidity. Next step will be to test the efficacy of primordial prevention implementation in a RCT. Finally, Dr Empana is engaged in Global health activities in the context of the European project Circle U gathering 9 prestigious European universities. He’s coordinating the knowledge hub on Global Health aiming to promote global health across Europe and beyond, to educate the next European generation on global health and to implement a common academic Master-PhD program on global health across these 9 universities.
